The surrounding verdant landscape provided the inspiration for this house perched high in the hinterland of Sydney’s Palm Beach. The design concept channels the mood of a luxury New Zealand lodge with its huge windows to bring the magnificence of the outdoors in, and a neutral interior punctuated by pops of colour, vintage Ikat and rustic materials including rattan and blonde timber. The original house was completely gutted to create an entirely new residence to meet the client’s brief for an open-plan living space and master suite on one level, with two self-contained guest suites on another floor. Built into the side of a cliff face, the vertiginous landscape was excavated to create an extensive outdoor living room featuring upholstered sofas, bar, custom stone spa bath and a central fireplace that enables the space to be enjoyed year round. The interiors reflect the owner’s love of comfort and entertaining with considered areas for congregating or quiet contemplation, featuring custom furniture designed by Marco Meneguzzi Design and displaying an extensive art collection.
